I’ve been too busy to cook a damn thing since getting home. We actually have nothing to eat and our fridge only holds some home brews, a jar of salsa, carrots and condiments. So, instead of posting a recipe, I thought I’d share one of my favorites: Maldon Sea Salt.

When I worked at the Chopping Block I was introduced to salt. Kosher salt, fine grain sea salt, pink sea salt, gray sea salt, all with different flavors, textures and colors. I also tasted the difference between iodized table salt and kosher/sea salt. I will never again buy that jar with the girl with the umbrella. The iodized salt was once needed but if you eat a healthy diet, you don’t need to get it from your salt.

I like Maldon’s sea salt because it is so light and flaky and has a clean taste. It crumbles easily in hand and makes fresh tomatoes taste even better.

I store my salt on the counter in a lovely, white ceramic salt pig.

I had been searching for a salt pig for a while and described it to Chris once while at Ikea. About a week later I came home from class and discovered Chris had found me my very own white salt pig. It keeps the salt dry and right at hand whenever I need it.

You inspired me while I was at the grocery store last night. I looked over and this adorable salt crock was staring at me. Next thing I know it’s squatting next to my stove.

FYI readership- I put the crock’s picture where my name falls on accident- so if you want to see it, click Shea.

Ooo! I like that salt crock! I also like that you’re speaking to my ‘readership’ now.
